Free Speech
The European Freedom Fund aims to uphold the right to live and speak the truth.
Why is free speech important to society?
As people created in the image of God, we are responsible for wisely managing our environment and relationships. Although our interactions are flawed due to living in a broken world, we are encouraged to “speak the truth in love” to one another.
Speech plays a central role in this mission. Protecting the right to speak freely is crucial for the well-being of society. Safeguarding the fundamental right to free speech ensures everyone can engage in civil discourse and seek truth without fear of government repercussions.
The European Freedom Fund strives to promote a society that respects and accepts diverse viewpoints, allows the free exchange of ideas, and encourages vigorous debate. Free speech is a universal right, from students on university campuses to creative professionals expressing themselves in line with their conscience.
Government censorship, forced speech, “hate speech” laws, designated free speech areas, and cancel culture all undermine free speech and ought to be resisted.
A variety of ideas in a market is essential for a free society. Without freedom of speech, there is no freedom, and democracies will struggle. It is the cornerstone of a free society, and its preservation is paramount.
